Cologne Cathedral | Germany
Cologne Cathedral is a majestic architectural landmark, a sample of Gothic architecture, and is included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Construction of the cathedral started in the first half of the 18th century and ended in the end of the 19th century.
The Cologne Cathedral is 157 meters tall. It was the tallest building in the world for four years after its completion. This grand structure houses the reliquary of the Three Kings, one of the main objects of worship in the Christian world. The reliquary richly decorated for storage of sacred remains was manufactured over the period of ten years.
A legend says that Cologne will exist until its cathedral is demolished. The building was ruined by bombing runs during the Second World War, and restoration is still in progress, costing EUR 10 million a year.
